A vintage, well-worn leather journal with a cracked, chestnut-brown cover and hand-stitched spine, lying open on a broad wooden desk covered in faded paperwork, manila folders, and handwritten notes. The scene is set near a large window, with soft, overcast daylight illuminating the textures of the desk and casting gentle, natural shadows around the journal. A subtle sense of nostalgia and reflection fills the air, evoking memory and history. Shot from an eye-level perspective with a centered composition and shallow depth of field, emphasizing the journal as a vessel for personal recollections. The style is warm, authentic, and documentary, perfectly suited to a site focused on preserving lived experiences.

Voices of Minnesota

Our Story

We collect survivor-initiated memories to document youth placement experiences in Minnesota during the 1990s and early 2000s.

Participation is voluntary and grounded in respect for lived histories, ensuring voices lead the conversation and shape how the past is remembered.

A collection of official, slightly yellowed Minnesota state documents from the 1990s meticulously arranged atop a clean, institutional grey table in a quiet, archival room. Around the papers are archival boxes, a rubber stamp, and a felt-tip pen, adding tactile detail. Ambient fluorescent lighting softly highlights the papers without glare, creating an atmosphere of seriousness and authenticity. Framed with a bird’s-eye view and sharp focus throughout, this composition emphasizes the process of historical preservation. The artistic style is clean realism, evoking a sense of respect for record-keeping and history.
